Missouri Vehicle Repossession Laws

Vehicle repossession is unfortunate, and may be negotiated with your title loan lender. There are policies each lender must follow when choosing vehicle repossession. Missouri legislation requires each lender to wait 10 days after missed payments before they can repossess. So if you make a payment before that 10 day period, they cannot take your vehicle. After 10 days, the lender must mail out a “Notice Involving Default and Right to Heal,” which can state the remaining balance due and when it will be due. There is a minimum of 20 days to allow the consumer to prevent the default. Missouri residents are allowed up to a month to cure the default. You are allowed to be late on payments twice, the second time you will receive another notice allowing you the same time frame to cure this default as the first notice. However, the third late payment could result in immediate repossession if it is not cured right away. There will be no further notices given after the third and final missed payment.
